CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Training Future Physicians and Science Leaders

TRANSFORM KNOWLEDGE INTO PRACTICE

The Clinical Research Fellowship aims to provide U.S. based physicians with the experience they need to transform knowledge into practice and the medical director training for a potential career in industry. We partner across various therapeutic areas in early and late stage clinical development so fellows can pursue groundbreaking science to discover and develop medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases.

See what some of our alumni have to say about their fellowship experience!
“The MD Fellowship Program was a great opportunity to get hands-on exposure to different aspects of clinical trials. The in-depth knowledge gained of various aspects such as Clinical Development, Medical Affairs and Regulatory/Safety Science was invaluable in understanding the crucial roles physicians can play beyond the clinical practice environment. I would highly recommend it as an entry level career choice for MDs who are interested in finding out more about the intriguing world of the biotech/pharma industry.”
Adaeze Sonuga, M.D.
Medical Retina and Uveitis Fellow
Emory Eye Center

“The Genentech MD Fellowship enabled me to trial a career in industry during my clinical training, and helped make me feel very comfortable continuing my career at Genentech. Previously, drug development and clinical trials were abstract topics to me, but the experience demystified what it takes for a drug to be approved. You have the opportunity to learn from others while simultaneously being immersed in leadership roles yourself. The real appeal to me about Genentech is that it's a company that puts patients first and allows its people to create scalable impact through clinical research."

Palak Kundu, M.D., MBA
Medical Director at Genentech
PD Clinical Science, Oncology
“It’s nerve wracking to decide to take the jump from clinical practice, fellowship and academic medicine into industry. And I would really encourage everybody to not be afraid to do that. Fellows can go back into practice with much more education and awareness of how medicines are developed. They can have the possibility to stay at a place like Genentech/Roche, or other places in industry through the fellowship."
Jason Ehrlich, M.D., Ph.D
Chief Medical Officer & Chief Development Officer at Kodiak
Former Global Head of PD Clinical Ophthalmology at Genentech
"It’s a great and rare opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in clinical research. Fellows can see how the industry works and really make a difference in population health. They will gain an understanding of where the unmet needs are in medicine and try to make a difference in those areas. It’s an amazing place to just learn about things outside of medicine, clinical science, and seeing patients.”
Jeff Willis, M.D., Ph.D
Global Development Lead & Senior Medical Director at Genentech
PD Clinical Science, Ophthalmology
